ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES
HERE TO HELP |
The
average family can spend in excess of $100 per week on groceries. Since June
2005 a food program has been in this area to assist people in purchasing a
weeks worth of groceries for $30.00 through Angel Food Ministries. |
Exciting
Living Word Fellowship in Anderson, MO is the Host Site for this food
ministry. They have teamed up with Angel Food Ministry from Good Hope,
Georgia to assist in our county, surrounding area and the tri- state area.
Tom and Olinda West are Host Site Coordinators. |
Angel
Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization. There is
no income requirements, no qualification process, unlike many other local
charities. |
“If you
eat-you qualify,” states Tom West. Olinda explained that this is top of the
line, not damaged, and not expired. Further stating, that several factors
explain why Angel Food Ministries is able to sell the food at such a
discounted price. |
1.
Angel Food purchases the overages directly from the manufacturer. An example
of “how” this works is: Let’s say Safeway contacts that manufacturer (Mrs.
Smith) and orders 40,000 apple pies. In turn Mrs. Smith makes 70,000 pies,
to cover possible damages or if Safeway wants to order more. Angel Food
Ministries is able to buy the excess pies from Mrs. Smith for 75-cents
a-piece. Consequently, Angel Food was able to purchase a pie that normally
would cost more than $4, for 75-cents. |
2.
Angel Food is able to receive directly from the manufacturer, which
eliminates the price increase often added as food travels from warehouse to
warehouse. |
3.
Angel Food buys in bulk and because of this practice; they can purchase 100
pounds of potatoes, carrots or onions for a penny. |
Angel
Food Ministries purchases enough food to build 1 million boxes of groceries
a month. For December 2005, they filled 260,000 boxes of food. In year 2005,
they filled 1.6 million boxes of food. |
“This is
a monthly program that runs all year long with the menu changing monthly. It
is for anyone who wishes to save money on groceries. Orders are placed and
paid near the beginning of the month and delivered approximately two weeks
later. There is no limit to the number of $30 food boxes that an individual
can purchase. The money received buys the groceries ordered. We are equipped
to accept Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas Food Stamps (EBT) and
cash, no checks. Orders must be prepaid and a receipt will be given.
Approximately two weeks later the consumer picks their order up at Exciting
Living Word Fellowship, Anderson, Mo.,” states Olinda. |
On
Distribution Day all of our help to package the bulk food into individual
orders is done by non paid volunteers through our fellowship and local
churches who wish to participate by previously contacting Tom or Olinda
[Host Site Coordinators]. |
Tom
states, “All we ask is #1. Do not resale food you purchased and # 2. Please
attend a church of your choice.” |
Olinda
states, “The information highway is always open and there are many ways one
can find out more about this bargain and a blessing for your family or
others. They may call the church at 417-845-6569; visit www.elwf.org or
www.angelfoodministry.org for more information.” |
“Some
families have more month left than money to meet expenses and
this will help. No matter what their income bracket is,” states Olinda West. |
